Violin practice log
A simple way to keep a violin practice log: what to practice each day, a free printable chart, and an app that keeps the log for you.
A 25-minute violin practice routine
| Tune and warm up (5 min) | Tune, then long open-string bows: straight, even, from frog to tip. |
| Scales (5–10 min) | One scale slowly with a drone or tuner for intonation, then with the week's bowing. |
| Pieces (10–15 min) | The tricky shift or string crossing on its own first; then the phrase around it. |
| Play-through (5 min) | One review piece, standing, as if for an audience. |
Check the bow hold and the violin hold in a mirror once each session.
What to write in the log
- The date and how many minutes.
- What was practiced: the scale, the piece and the bars.
- How it went, and anything to ask the teacher.
